The Irrigator Recognition System is a scheme that grants irrigator status to farmers who adopt practices aimed at improving irrigation management and optimising the technical performance of their irrigation systems.

Under Ministerial Order no. 136/2015 of 19 May, this recognition is based on the adequacy of irrigation dosage, the timing of irrigation, and the improvement of irrigation system efficiency. Verification is carried out by a recognised irrigator assessment body authorised by the Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development, in its capacity as the National Irrigation Authority. Agricert has been an irrigator recognition body authorised by DGADR since May 2015.

How to apply
To apply, the operator must follow these steps:

• Request the application form by email at agricert@agricert.pt;
• Once the completed form has been received, Agricert sends the corresponding quotation;
• Confirm acceptance of the quotation to the Inspection Body;
• Sign a contract between the Inspection Body and the operator;
• From that point onwards, the operator must comply with the regulations and/or standards applicable to irrigator recognition, and will be subject to annual control by the Inspection Body for recognition purposes and biennial inspection.
