Smithsonian Bird Friendly® is a certification standard for coffee and cocoa plantations that promotes the protection of biodiversity and the habitats linked to production.
It is designed for production systems that preserve ecosystems and wildlife, particularly through shade-grown cultivation and the use of native tree species. This approach supports habitat conservation and helps protect biodiversity in production areas.
To obtain Smithsonian Bird Friendly® certification, the plantation must already be certified under organic production, demonstrate the absence of deforestation, and show that biodiversity is being conserved through agroforestry management systems.
