Animal Welfare and Rational Use of Antimicrobials

Animal Welfare and Rational Use of Antimicrobials is an intervention that promotes good livestock practices in intensive cattle and pig farming, with the aim of improving animal welfare and reducing the use of antimicrobials.

This intervention is intended to strengthen the livestock sector’s response to societal expectations regarding animal welfare, while also promoting a more rational use of antimicrobials in cattle and pigs.

How to apply
To apply, the operator must follow these steps:

1. Request the application form by email at agricert@agricert.pt;

2. Once the completed form has been received, Agricert sends the corresponding quotation;

3. Confirm acceptance of the quotation to the Certification Body;

4. Sign a contract between the Certification Body and the operator;

5. Proceed with the scheduling of the control activity;

6. Undergo annual follow-up controls, sampling of products/production inputs, and random controls, with or without prior notice;

7. Issue or renew the certificate.
