Adega do Monte Branco, located in Estremoz, has achieved certification under the Wines of Alentejo Sustainability Programme (WASP), following a certification audit carried out by Agricert in accordance with the certification scheme established by the Alentejo Regional Wine Growing Commission (CVRA).
The certification recognises the progress made by the organisation on its sustainability journey and enables it to demonstrate, through an independent assessment, compliance with the requirements established by the Programme.
A project rooted in its territory
Established in 2004, Adega do Monte Branco operates in Estremoz, where it has 28 hectares of vineyards. The project is based on the use of Portuguese grape varieties, the authenticity of its wines and respect for nature, with continuous improvement in sustainability forming an integral part of its vision.
Its location, at an altitude of approximately 400 metres, together with the different soil types and more moderate temperatures, gives distinctive characteristics to the vineyards and the wines produced in this territory.
It was within this context that Adega do Monte Branco pursued WASP certification, seeking to differentiate and strengthen the recognition of its products while highlighting the work carried out across the different areas of the organisation.
Certification is based on an independent assessment of the organisation’s compliance with the requirements established by the Programme, demonstrating Adega do Monte Branco’s commitment to its products, the territory in which it operates, its employees, its customers and the responsible use of resources.
What is the WASP?
The Wines of Alentejo Sustainability Programme (WASP) is an initiative of the CVRA, whose development began in 2013 and which is aimed at grape growers and wine producers in the Alentejo Wine Region.
The Programme seeks to promote improved sustainability performance in the wine sector, combining the production of high-quality and economically viable grapes and wine with environmental protection and responsible relationships with employees and local communities.
WASP certification provides third-party validation of the sustainability system implemented by the organisation, with the assessment carried out by an independent certification body accredited and approved by the CVRA.
The value of certification
Agricert was the certification body responsible for the assessment and certification against the requirements of the CVRA’s WASP certification scheme, ensuring an independent evaluation of compliance with the applicable requirements.
This external validation provides objective evidence of compliance with the Programme’s requirements, helping to enhance the value of the organisation’s sustainability journey and strengthen the confidence of its customers and partners.
The awarding of this certificate marks another milestone in Adega do Monte Branco’s journey and reinforces its commitment to increasingly sustainable wine production.
Agricert congratulates Adega do Monte Branco on this achievement and thanks the organisation for the trust placed in our work.
